Gentle, Effective Cavity Treatment
Cavities Happen, and We're Here to Help
Even children with great brushing habits can develop cavities. When they do, the most important thing is treating them early, comfortably, and without anyone feeling bad about it. At Treetop, we approach every cavity with the same calm, no-judgment attitude we bring to every visit. We explain what we found, walk you through your options, and answer every question before anything begins.
Our board-certified pediatric dentists are trained specifically in treating children, which means we know how to make treatment feel manageable for kids at every age and comfort level.
How We Find Cavities Early
Finding cavities early means simpler treatment, less chair time, and better outcomes. At Treetop, we use intraoral cameras that allow us to show you exactly what we see in real time: no surprises, no guessing. We take digital X-rays only when clinically necessary and are actively integrating AI-assisted X-ray analysis to identify concerns with even greater precision. The goal is always to find small problems before they require more extensive treatment.
Comfort During Treatment
We believe no child should leave our office feeling scared or in pain. Before treatment begins, we tailor our approach to your child’s specific needs:
- Local Anesthetic: Ensures your child feels nothing during the procedure.
- Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas): Helps children feel calm and relaxed while remaining fully awake and responsive.
- Oral Sedation: An option for children with more significant anxiety or extensive treatment needs.
We will review all comfort options with you in advance so you feel confident in the plan.
Tooth-Colored Fillings
For small to moderate cavities, we use tooth-colored composite materials that blend naturally with your child’s tooth, restore its strength, and preserve as much healthy tooth structure as possible. There are no metal fillings at Treetop. Our restorations look natural, perform well, and are designed to last. Most fillings are completed in a single visit. We use conservative techniques designed to preserve as much natural tooth structure as possible.
Pediatric Crowns (White Zirconia)
When a baby tooth is significantly weakened, a zirconia crown is often the best way to protect it until it’s ready to fall out. At Treetop, we offer durable, metal-free crowns that look and feel just like natural teeth. Designed specifically for active kids, these crowns blend in beautifully while holding up to the daily wear of being a kid.
Pulpotomy (Baby Tooth Root Canal)
If decay reaches the inner portion of a tooth, a pulpotomy may be recommended to remove the affected tissue while preserving the healthy structure below. While the term “root canal” can sound intimidating, these are routine procedures performed comfortably at Treetop. This allows your child to keep their tooth until it is naturally ready to fall out.
Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF)
SDF is a conservative, non-invasive liquid treatment that stops cavity progression without the need for drilling or anesthetic. It’s an ideal choice for very young children or those with significant anxiety, as it helps buy valuable time before more traditional treatment is needed. We will always discuss if this simple, “no-shot” option is right for your child.
Do Baby Teeth Really Need Treatment?
Yes. Even though baby teeth eventually fall out, they play an important role in speech, nutrition, and guiding permanent teeth into place. Untreated cavities can lead to pain, infection, and damage to developing adult teeth. Treating them early helps avoid more complicated care later.
After Your Child's Appointment
- Numbness: Usually wears off in 1 to 2 hours. Avoid hot foods until sensation returns.
- Soft Foods: Recommended for the rest of the day after a crown or pulpotomy.
- Sensitivity: Mild sensitivity after a filling is normal and usually resolves in a few days.
- When to Call: If your child experiences significant pain, swelling, or fever, contact our office right away.
We will give you specific aftercare instructions before you leave and are always available to answer questions.
