February is one of my favorite times of the year. Not just because of Valentine’s Day and all the chocolate indulgences, but because it has been designated as National Children’s Dental Health Month by the American Dental Association. The purpose of the NCDHM is to raise awareness about the importance of oral health for children. Developing good dental habits early on helps provide children with a healthy foundation to build upon a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums. Did you know that tooth decay in children is the most common childhood disease? And, that in many cases, it is preventable?

This year, the ADA’s theme for NCDHM is “GET A GOLD MEDAL SMILE” through:

American Dental Association NCDHM

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month

  • Brushing your teeth twice a day
  • Cleaning between your teeth (flossing) daily
  • Limiting snacks and eating healthy meals
  • Visiting your dentist regularly

To help continue spreading the word on the importance of children’s dental health, the Treetop Pediatric Dentistry team will be visiting the New Braunfels Public Library storytime on Tuesday, February 12 at 10 am with the Happy Teeth Academy Program.

You and your children will also have another opportunity to attend a Happy Teeth Academy on Friday, February 15th at 11 am at McKenna Children’s Museum.

At Treetop Pediatric Dentistry, our mission is to educate and serve our patients and parents in a fun and engaging environment. To accomplish this, we created Dr. Brandon’s Happy Teeth Academy. This program is a hands-on approach to teaching children how to develop healthy habits that will last a lifetime. Our curriculum is customized with age-appropriate material to ensure peak engagement. Here is just some of what your child will learn through Dr. Brandon’s Happy Teeth Academy:

  1.  What to expect on a trip to the dentist, including what you may see, wear, and hear
  2. Health eating habits, and foods that make our teeth happy and sad
  3. Great techniques for brushing and flossing
  4. For older groups we also discuss the science behind cavities to better understand how they work.
I love to talk teeth and would love to be a guest speaker for your children, mom’s group, storytime, or anytime. Please give our office a call 830-515-5365 if you would like to schedule us for your group or class, or send an email to info@treetopdental.com for more information.
